Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS) Formula Grant

CMHA Independent Living Initiative - Funds Awarded: $7,204,023

CMHA was awarded seven million dollars in ARRA Formula Grant funds to perform extensive renovations at several estates in order to make the properties completely accessible to persons with disabilities. CMHA has renovated units, parking, accessible routes, common areas, and programs to be accessible under the strict guidelines of the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards. Renovations to units have included the installation of grab bars, roll-in showers, work stations, low cabinets and shelving, and equipment to aid the hearing and sight impaired. CMHA has also modified parking spaces, sidewalks, drop-off areas, and mail boxes to provide unrestricted access to persons with disabilities. Other renovations include physical changes to management offices, community rooms, meeting spaces, senior centers, community kitchens, daycare facilities, and libraries. In addition to all of the physical modifications undertaken using ARRA funds, CMHA has also modified its programs and policies to ensure equal accessibility for all CMHA residents and the public.
