Long Standing Vacant Unit Renovation Formula Grant
Long Standing Vacant Unit Renovation - Funds Awarded: $2,330,164
CMHA received over $2 million to renovate a total of 131 long-standing vacant units at ten estates. Public housing units which have been vacant for long periods of time become problematic for housing authorities because the cost to renovate them to livable conditions can become very costly, and these vacant units should be occupied in order to provide much needed, vital housing to people who truly need it. CMHA regularly addresses long-standing vacancies through its construction department every year, and with assistance from Stimulus funds, CMHA was able to increase the number of units it was able to renovate, making those units habitable for qualified families.
