 Energy Efficient Laundries
In November 2008, CMHA’s Board of Commissioners approved
a contract with A.L.L.
Laundry Service to provide brand new state-of-the-art energy efficient
washing machines and dryers at all of our properties. The new
frontload washing machines will save up to 60% on energy, water and
sewer costs, and the new top-load washers will reduce water usage by
up to 25% when compared with our current washers.
The new machines will also greatly improve the washing and drying
process. Clothes will get cleaner and dry in much less time,
therefore prolonging the life of the clothing. To further enhance
to the efficiencies of our new dryers, CMHA contracted to have our
dryer ducts and vents professionally cleaned, and to continue that
service every two years. The photos below show the duct and vent cleaning
taking place.
  
In addition to those benefits, a new level of convenience is being
provided for our residents. These new machines are activated
by a debit type money card. No longer will our residents have
to worry about having quarters. The cards which
contain a computer chip will be provided to
our residents. They
will be able to load money onto the card from
the Value Transfer Machines (VTM), which
have been installed at all of our properties.

by the VTM and the washers and dryers.

card, residents simply insert the money
card and desired bills into the Value
Transfer Machine (VTM), it will add
that amount to the card. |
In addition to the
much improved performance of these
new machines, another very significant
benefit for our residents is the convenience
of not having to "stockpile" quarters
to do their laundry. |
The installation of the new washers and dryers is now complete
and our residents are enjoying the benefits of this new system.
