Phoenix Village
Phoenix Village, originally known as King Kennedy North Family, is located in the Central Neighborhood of Cleveland. The original King Kennedy North development was constructed in 1971, a year after the construction of the King Kennedy South Estate. King Kennedy North was originally comprised of two six story structures known as the North High Rise and ten three story gallery style walk up buildings known as King Kennedy North, or the “yellows”.
After conducting a comprehensive review of the building conditions at King Kennedy North in the mid 1990’s, a determination was made to demolish all of the King Kennedy North units and redevelop this site. CMHA relocated all residents in 1997 and submitted a demolition plan for this property. CMHA was granted HOPE VI Demolition Grants in 1998 and 2000 for the demolition of the units and completed the demolition in 2002.

Through an RFP process, CMHA selected Tesco Builders, of Cleveland, and awarded a $12.3 million contract for the construction of a 98 new town house unit development at this site. After a successful design process, construction began in August of 2003, and the first phase consisting of 50 new town house units was completed and occupied in June of 2004. The remaining units were ready for occupancy in August of 2005. CMHA has received rave reviews for the design and the newly constructed units, as they resemble expensive suburban town homes.
