Message from the CEO
We are pleased to present the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) Virtual Annual Report to the Community. The accomplishments highlighted in this online report showcase our strong commitment to the residents we serve. Please visit: http://www.cmha.net/aboutus/annualreport/2014/index.html.
CMHA is proud to announce its collaboration with Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) to facilitate the youth summer employment program again this year. CMHA is a partner site that has agreed to hire youth for the summer. Together we empower youth, age 14-19, who come from families at or below poverty, to succeed in school, the workplace, and in life. Employees mentor, support, and teach students the career and employability skills they need to succeed.
In addition, CMHA has begun a leadership transition for both the Construction Department and the Housing Choice Voucher Program. I am pleased to announce and welcome the two newest members of the CMHA team, Mr. Michael Shea, Director of Construction, and Ms. Latweeta Smyers, Director of the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
As many of you know, our former Director of Construction Sam retired after 31 years of service. We all wish him well in his future endeavors. As we move ahead, I am happy to introduce Mr. Michael Shea as our new Director of Construction. Mr. Shea comes to CMHA from the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority where he served as the Director of Redevelopment and Modernization. In that role, he was responsible for the overall management and delivery of the multi-million dollar construction and modernization program. Mr. Shea has a Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Communications from The Ohio State University. He is passionate about creating a thriving community for our residents and we are excited about him joining our team and helping us to continue to rebuild communities in Cuyahoga County. Mr. Shea can be reached at email@example.com and at 271-2701.
The current HCVP Director Priscilla Pointer-Hicks has announced her retirement from the agency effective July 31, 2014. We want to take this opportunity to extend our deepest appreciation to Ms. Pointer-Hicks for over 15 years of dedicated service. Throughout her tenure at CMHA, she has worked diligently to develop the Program into a valuable, highly utilized community resource. Under her direction, we have initiated technological improvements to improve service; built public partnerships to help maintain great housing opportunities throughout the County, and employed private and public collaborations to ensure that housing can be made available for some of the most vulnerable families. We are grateful for her years of service with the HCVP and wish her the very best in her future endeavors.
As we begin to move ahead, effective July 7, 2014, Ms. Latweeta Smyers, will assume operational and administrative oversight as the Director of the HCVP. Ms. Smyers has solid experience working at housing authorities, administering HUD rules and regulations, as well as managing both Housing Choice Voucher and low income public housing programs. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Florida A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Florida State University. She is excited about starting her career at CMHA and helping to enrich the lives of residents in the community. Ms. Smyers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and at 216.271.2451. Please join CMHA in welcoming Ms. Latweeta Smyers to our wonderful community.
Please help us welcome Mr. Shea and Ms. Smyers to our wonderful community.
