HOPE VI Overview

 

The HOPE VI Program is a competitively awarded grant program developed by the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act of 1993. Its purpose is to assist public housing authorities with the eradication of severely distressed public housing. The program’s goals are centered on:

  • Physical improvements
  • Management improvements
  • Community Supportive Service
  • Deconcentration of poverty

 

The HOPE VI program has been instrumental in CMHA’s commitment to reshaping conventional ideas of public housing. To date, the Authority has been awarded four HOPE IV grants with a combined total of over $110 million. These funds were leveraged by using community partnerships and available resources with the goal of neighborhood revitalization. The following communities were redeveloped using HOPE VI funding:
