Miles Pointe
Miles Pointe is located at E. 119th and Miles Avenue in Ward 2 of the City of Cleveland. Cleveland City Councilman Zach Reed, along with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), Union Miles Development Corporation and local residents determined that there was a need for senior housing in the community.
The goal of the Miles Pointe development project is to provide affordable housing options for seniors at or over the age of 55 who are still able to live independent of nursing care but can no longer afford a mortgage or maintain a house and yard.
The Miles Pointe development will be a 3-story L-Shaped building which will house 43 affordable one and two bedroom units. Plans are for 33 one-bedroom units and 10 two- bedroom units available in four distinct unit designs. The building has been designed to meet Universal Design requirements, Enterprise Green requirements, and visitability requirements.
Building amenities include a community room, community kitchen, on-site laundry, outdoor sitting areas, a rain garden and courtyard. This site will serve as the sister site to the Lee Road Senior Building. It is currently vacant, and will only help in promoting growth and revitalization in the community. Both buildings will feature innovative design features that will compliment the neighborhood, while eliminating vacancies on major streets, Lee, Miles and 119th).
The funding of this project will be critical to its success. The funding will come from a variety of sources such as 9% tax credits which CMHA was just allocated from OHFA, a City of Cleveland HOME loan and CMHA funding sources.
