Youthbuild Information
The mission of YouthBuild is to unleash the positive energy of low-income, young adults to rebuild their communities and their lives with a commitment to work, education, responsibility, and family. CMHA received a Youthbuild in 2009 as a result of a grant received from the US Department of Labor. The program has focused on education, leadership, financial literacy, life skills, and workforce development. One participant has earned his GED, while many others have increased their reading and math at least one grade level.
The current Youthbuild participants are working with Marous Brothers Construction rebuilding the Garden Valley Estates. Under the supervision of Ken Troutman, the CMHA Youthbuild Construction Site Trainer, the participants have been introduced to the following trades: drywall, sheet metal, roofing, aluminum siding and painting.
