Community partners, residents and CMHA staff came together to celebrate the opening of the first phase of the Buckeye-Woodhill Choice Transformation!

Woodhill Station West began welcoming residents earlier this year, and community partners, residents, and CMHA staff joined together for a celebratory ribbon cutting to mark this tremendous achievement on March 28th. Once an empty lot in the Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhood, this newly constructed apartment community offers 120 affordable homes, outdoor gathering places, and other amenities. This innovative construction project is the first of the six phase Buckeye-Woodhill Choice Transformation project that will bring several hundred new homes and other facilities that will impact the residents of this historic Cleveland neighborhood.

To kick off the celebration, CEO Jeffrey K Patterson highlighted the triumphs and challenges that paved the path to completion for this multi-year collaborative construction effort. Patterson underlined the impact that the Choice Transformation project has on the residents and the surrounding community and later, Commissioner Nadine D. Head, from the CMHA Board of Commissioners spoke of the triumph of this project and the opportunities that the next phases will bring!

The event featured speeches from impactful partners like George Tabit, the Regional Vice President of Development for The Community Builders, who played a key role in the collaboration that brought this project to life. Attendees also heard remarks from Blaine A. Griffin, Council President, and Deborah A. Gray, Councilwoman, from The City of Cleveland and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Monocchio, of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Marilyn Burns, the Buckeye Woodhill Steering Committee Co-Chair, and Rondell Sheffey, a Woodhill Resident, both delivered powerful statements about the importance of this revitalization project to CMHA residents and the community in general.
