The CMHA Police Department is a state-certified law enforcement agency and is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The members of the Police Department know that there is no greater honor than serving others. The Department is proud to have a team that is recognized as among the most tenacious, respectful, understanding, service-oriented and well-trained members found in any law enforcement agency in the United States. The Police Department is constantly patrolling and protecting lives and property as well as providing assistance to those in need.

CALEA AccreditationTwenty years ago, the Police Executive Research Forum, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the National Sheriffs’ Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police joined together to develop a set of professional standards for all types of law enforcement entities in the United States. Collectively known as the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the organization has currently developed over 400 standards and is responsible for administering the accreditation process.
A small percentage of law enforcement agencies nationwide have attained CALEA accreditation, the gold standard in public safety. Accreditation ensures a standard of excellence and recognizes a police department’s commitment to better itself to become the most productive and effective law enforcement agency it can be. CMHA has been accredited since 1998 and is seeking its eighth reaccreditation. A reaccreditation demonstrates the high standard CMHA expects of its police force. More information on CALEA is available at www.calea.org.
