The CMHA PD is a nationally accredited police department by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). As a newly appointed team member, you will be partnered with an experienced officer and learn how to provide superior law enforcement services. The CMHA PD provides professional development and wellness through access to ongoing training, mentoring and professional development for a long, fulfilling law enforcement career. Uniformed Officers typically work 12-hour shifts (7 a.m. - 7 p.m., 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.). Some team members work an 8-hour shift depending on the assignment.

The CMHA PD provides promotional opportunities to the SWAT Team, K-9 Unit, Detective Bureau, Special Investigative Unit, Crime Suppression Unit, U.S. Marshals Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, Northeast Ohio Gang & Narcotics Task Force and more. Officers may be able to apply for several specialized assignments after serving one-three years on patrol.

Police Officer Minimum Qualifications
- Be a US citizen, by birth or naturalization, at the time of application
- Be 21 years old when appointed to Police Officer
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license under the laws of the State of Ohio
- Must possess an Ohio Peace Officer Certificate or enrolled in an Ohio Police Academy
- No conviction record for felony or crime of moral turpitude
Application Process:
- Complete the CMHA application
- Complete the Personal History Questionnaire
- Interview in-person/virtual
- Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA)
- Physical agility
- Undergo a comprehensive background investigation and computerized history check
- Background verification interview
- Psychological examination
- Medical and drug screen
- A formal offer of employment
